It may have taken 163 games this year, but the postseason picture is finally painted. After a tie-breaking match between the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers, who finished with identical records, the Rays edged the Rangers to take the second wild card slot.
The win was backed behind a stellar pitching performance by David Price, who threw a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits in his nine inning masterpiece. Evan Longoria helped give Price some run support, knocking out three hits and two RBIs with a home run.
Tampa will now go on to play Cleveland, starting the five game series in Ohio this Wednesday. The Rays will be putting Alex Cobb on the mound, who finished the year 11-3 with a 2.76 ERA. He will be facing Cleveland pitcher Danny Salazar, who started just 10 games this season ending up 2-3 with a 3.12 ERA.
